Uzbekistan and Turkey Launch Large-Scale Training Program for Uniformed Doctors

The defense partnership between Tashkent and Ankara is expanding far beyond conventional military-technical cooperation, capturing the strategic realm of saving lives. The President of Uzbekistan has officially initiated a deep integration in military medicine by approving an agreement that will lay the foundation for training a new generation of military doctors under the strictest international standards. This initiative represents more than just academic exchange; it deploys a comprehensive ecosystem ranging from joint high-tech surgical procedures and large-scale field exercises to the design and construction of innovative medical facilities.
The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyeva, has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on cooperation in military medicine and medical education. The document was initially signed during the Head of State's official visit to Turkey in January, and later in April and June, the implementation status of these agreements and general matters of bolstering defense ties were reviewed at the highest level with the participation of Minister of Defense Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov and high-ranking representatives of the Turkish Armed Forces.
The ratified agreement provides for the comprehensive training, retraining, and professional development of personnel across nearly 10 key medical disciplines. These areas include general medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, preventative medicine, professional medical education, and advanced nursing education. Training will be accessible at all educational tiers, including master's and postgraduate programs. Developing this path will substantially boost Uzbekistan's domestic capacity to execute complex high-tech surgical operations and perform vital scientific research in urgent medical fields.
Beyond the educational track, the agreement regulates proactive, hands-on interaction between the defense ministries of both nations. The parties will establish a continuous exchange of instructors, consultants, researchers, and students, alongside organizing joint seminars, congresses, and symposia. Of particular practical significance are the sections of the document establishing joint military drills, organizing joint medical consultations for patient treatment, and securing a long-term partnership in designing and building new specialized military medical institutions.
