2026 World Judo Championships Begin in Baku

The 2026 World Judo Championships have opened in Azerbaijan’s capital, bringing together the world’s leading judoka. The tournament is being held from October 4 to 11 and will crown world champions in the individual men’s and women’s events.
Over the course of a week, competitors will fight for one of the most prestigious titles in world judo. The individual programme will determine 14 world champions across the men’s and women’s categories.
The official opening ceremony of the championships was held in Baku. It was attended together with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and International Judo Federation (IJF) President Marius Vizer.
The championships bring together leading judoka from around the world, with athletes representing their countries and competing for medals throughout the week. The individual programme will conclude with the crowning of 14 world champions in the men’s and women’s events.
The team tournament will form a separate part of the championships. It will take place on October 11 and serve as the final event of the World Championships in Baku.
Particular attention is also focused on Uzbekistan’s representatives, who are competing for the national team and defending the country’s honor on the world stage. They have been wished strong performances, victories and good luck.
