President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed projects for the construction of a new city—"Yangi Qarshi" (New Qarshi)—and the development of a tourism complex along the Qarshi Main Canal.

A New City, "Yangi Qarshi," to be Built
A 5,200-hectare site has been selected for the new city, located between the A-378 "Samarkand–Guzar" highway and the 4R-79 road leading to Shahrisabz. The area currently consists of unused, low-productivity desert and pasture land. The preliminary master plan is designed to accommodate 500,000 residents.

The Head of State emphasized the need to plan the new city as a major hub—one that could eventually support a population of 1 million and serve as a modern expansion of the city of Qarshi.

Plans include relocating the regional administration (hokimiyat) and other government institutions to this site. A congress hall, concert venues, and hotels will be built, creating a center capable of hosting large-scale international forums, similar to those held in Samarkand and Bukhara.

The transport network must ensure seamless connectivity between the new city and other regions. The President highlighted the necessity of implementing electric public transport—and potentially an overground metro system—to link the airport and the railway station with the new city.

During the presentation, a project for a tourism complex along the Qarshi Main Canal was also reviewed. A 235-hectare area has been allocated for this three-kilometer-long zone. The project will be implemented in four stages; the first stage involves the construction of an "artisans' town" and a tourism zone covering 30 hectares. The complex is set to include hotels, restaurants, shops, a museum, a water park, and children’s playgrounds, as well as an artificial lake where visitors can go boating.

The President of our country has directed that the master plan for the new city and the master plan for the tourism complex be developed with great care, involving leading international design and architectural firms, and incorporating the core principles of safety, comfort, accessibility, and the "smart city" concept.
