All Six Uzbek Teams Win Their Opening Matches at Chess Olympiad

Uzbekistan made a perfect start to the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, with all six of its teams winning their opening-round matches. The country is represented by three men’s and three women’s teams.
Uzbekistan’s main men’s team defeated Jamaica 4-0. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, Shamsiddin Vokhidov and Mukhiddin Madaminov secured the wins, while Javokhir Sindarov did not play in the opening round. Uzbekistan-2 beat Afghanistan 3-1, while the third team defeated Mali 3.5-0.5.
In the women’s section, Uzbekistan’s main team beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-0. Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova won on the first board, with Nilufarkhon Imomquzieva, Guldona Karimova and Umida Omonova winning on the remaining boards. Uzbekistan-2 defeated Togo 3-1, while the third team beat Tanzania 4-0.
Among other first-round results, the United States defeated Iraq 3.5-0.5. Defending champions India beat Thailand 3-1, although Arjun Erigaisi lost on the first board to Thai player Prin Laohawirapap.
Round two begins on September 17 at 3 p.m. Samarkand time. Uzbekistan’s men’s teams will face Peru, Algeria and Germany, while the women’s teams will play Ecuador, Jordan and Spain. The Olympiad runs through September 27.
