Joe Biden officially announced his decision not to participate in the 2024 presidential election on his page on the social network X. In his address, he noted that being president has been the greatest honor of his life, and although he intended to seek re-election, he believes that it is for the country and the party will be better off if he concentrates on fulfilling his duties until the end of the term.

The president promised to explain his decision in more detail in an address to the nation later this week. In addition, he invited Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic presidential candidate. Biden emphasized that choosing Kamala Harris as vice president was the best decision he made and expressed his full support for her candidacy.

Former US President Donald Trump, who was nominated as the Republican candidate earlier this week, commented on Biden's decision, calling him the "worst president in the history" of the US. Trump also noted that it would be easier for him to defeat Harris in the presidential election than Biden.

Biden's decision to withdraw comes amid reports that his re-election chances have worsened since his first debate with Trump on June 27. Many experts and viewers considered Trump the winner, and the editorial board of The New York Times even called on Biden to withdraw from the election.
