ChatGPT has reached 800 million users
Technology
The number of ChatGPT users has exceeded 800 million, said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, speaking at the TED 2025 conference. According to him, today 10% of the Earth's population is already actively using the system, and the growth rate continues to amaze: in March, the company registered a million new users in just one hour.
A surge of interest was provided by the platform's viral features, including the generation of images in the style of the iconic Studio Ghibli animation studio. This "Ghibli wave" made ChatGPT a global hit in just a few days.
Altman noted that OpenAI is considering compensation for artists whose styles are used in creating content. In the future, a model may emerge where authors who voluntarily agree to use their styles will receive deductions.
The company head also emphasized that OpenAI has already implemented mechanisms to restrict the generation of images in recognizable author's styles without permission.
In addition, Altman shared plans to develop autonomous AI agents - models capable of acting independently in the interests of the user.
