China Expands Countermeasures Against the U.S. Ahead of Leaders' Meeting

China has announced a new round of countermeasures against the United States, tightening export controls on drones and related technologies while imposing sanctions on several American companies. The move comes ahead of an anticipated meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in September.
China's Ministry of Commerce said seven U.S. companies, including firms in the biotechnology and certification sectors, have been added to its sanctions list. Exports of drones, components and related technologies to the United States will also be subject to stricter case-by-case approval procedures.
Beijing said the measures were taken in response to recent U.S. restrictions, including the expansion of import bans on Chinese products and the addition of more than 40 Chinese entities to a list linked to alleged forced labor in Xinjiang. China rejected those allegations and urged Washington to reverse the restrictions.
China has also suspended U.S. participation in certain mandatory product certification procedures and launched a national security review of imported office equipment using foreign software.
Although both countries continue to exchange restrictive measures, preparations for a possible leaders' meeting in September are ongoing. Analysts say the latest actions underscore continuing trade and technology tensions but remain targeted rather than comprehensive.
