Qodirov noted that Uzbekistan&rsquo;s GDP has tripled over the past decade, while the number of companies capable of generating $1 billion in exports is increasing. According to Qodirov, the decisions adopted at the Khiva meeting are aimed at increasing the size of the economy twofold, threefold or potentially even fourfold. &ldquo;Uzbekistan must emerge from the global crisis as a strong state. For this, large and competitive companies must emerge among the participants of the Khiva meeting,&rdquo; he said. Qodirov also stressed that economic development cannot be achieved through entrepreneurs who use corruption schemes to circumvent government institutions and legislation. Looking ahead, Qodirov said Uzbekistan could reach a GDP of $500 billion by 2035 if the current pace of reforms is maintained. According to Khashimov, businesses face short-term lease agreements, unjustified rent increases and unofficial payments. &ldquo;If these relations are unstable, it is a major risk for an entrepreneur,&rdquo; he said. Khashimov also highlighted the practice of dividing rent into official and unofficial payments. &ldquo;I would like to tell entrepreneurs: we need to put an end to this practice,&rdquo; he said. According to him, fully official rent payments benefit both parties, while lease expenses can reduce an entrepreneur&rsquo;s taxable base. He also called for protection of investments made by entrepreneurs in renovating and developing leased premises if a lease agreement is terminated without sufficient grounds. &ldquo;We need to introduce a legal regime for commercial leases. Three thematic sessions focused on protecting the rights of women and young people in the digital environment, combating cyberbullying and online violence, protecting personal data, and developing inclusive digital services for persons with disabilities. A number of cooperation documents between the Human Rights Commissioner and national and international partners were also signed during the conference.
