U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that he convinced Coca-Cola to return to using cane sugar in its American formula. The company has not officially confirmed the change but stated it will share product news soon.

Coca-Cola May Change Its Formula at Trump’s Request
Amid growing criticism in other areas, Trump shifted public attention to one of the world’s most iconic brands. On Truth Social, he announced that Coca-Cola had agreed to replace the high-fructose corn syrup used in U.S. production since the 1980s with natural cane sugar.

According to Trump, this decision came as a result of his personal intervention. He called it “a step in the right direction” and promised Americans a return to the “real taste” of Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola has yet to confirm any formula change but responded by saying it "appreciates the president’s enthusiasm" and plans to share updates on new offerings soon.

In countries like Mexico and the UK, Coca-Cola already uses cane sugar in its recipe, and many consumers note these versions have a richer, more authentic flavor.

Trump’s announcement sparked mixed reactions. The Corn Refiners Association warned that such a move could result in job losses, reduced farm income, and increased reliance on sugar imports. They also stated that no proven health benefits have been demonstrated from switching to cane sugar.

According to The New York Times, Trump himself prefers Diet Coke, which is sweetened with aspartame. He is known for his strong preference for the diet version — even installing a special button in the White House to summon a butler who would bring him Diet Coke on a silver tray.

Despite previous criticism of Coca-Cola, the company released a commemorative Diet Coke bottle in 2025 to mark Trump’s second presidential term. The gesture sparked controversy, as Coca-Cola had strongly condemned Trump and his supporters after the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
