Uzbekistan
In Tashkent, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Cybersecurity Department dismantled a criminal group that developed and spread malicious APK files targeting Android devices. The malware allowed access to victims’ SMS, calls, and contacts, enabling large-scale theft of funds.
The investigation revealed that the viruses were distributed via special Telegram groups involving citizens from multiple countries. As a result of an operation, five members of the network were arrested.
Authorities confirmed that the hackers defrauded more than 130 citizens, stealing nearly 3 billion Uzbek soums. A criminal case has been opened, and efforts are underway to identify other members of the group nationwide.
