Donald's Second Attempt: Trump Back on the Nobel Prize Shortlist

World

Donald Trump returns to the fray for one of the planet's most prestigious honors. After the Nobel Peace Prize slipped through his fingers in 2025, an international coalition of supporters and political leaders has launched a major campaign for his renomination. Will the 47th US President manage to trade his status as a perennial nominee for the title of laureate in October 2026?

Donald's Second Attempt: Trump Back on the Nobel Prize Shortlist
Donald Trump has officially entered the list of contenders for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Kristian Berg Harpvihen, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, confirmed that 287 nominations have been received for the current cycle, including 208 individual candidates. Although the list is traditionally kept in strict confidence, information regarding Trump's nomination became public through his supporters and officials from partner nations.

Support for Trump this year is markedly international. Among those who submitted official representations to Oslo are Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, as well as representatives of the Pakistani government and a group of American congressmen. The primary argument for the nomination is Trump’s role in the diplomatic resolution of long-standing conflicts, including his mediation in Middle East peace processes and the advancement of regional agreements.

Last year proved a disappointment for Trump's supporters: in 2025, the prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. However, this has only spurred the activity of his team, which believes that Trump's merits in preventing new wars have been undervalued. Nonetheless, a nomination is only the first stage. The Nobel Committee emphasizes that the number of applications does not influence the chances of winning, and the selection process remains confidential. The world will only learn in mid-October 2026 whether Donald Trump will join the ranks of Nobel laureates.
