The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola outbreak in the DR Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern. The WHO emphasized that while the situation does not yet meet pandemic criteria, the true geographic spread and infection rates remain uncertain.

Currently, the DR Congo reports 246 suspected cases and 80 deaths. In Uganda, the virus was laboratory-confirmed in two individuals arriving from the DR Congo, one of whom died in Kampala. International experts are placing the situation under strict surveillance.
