Elon Musk Predicts AI Could Surpass Humanity's Combined Intelligence Within Five Years

Artificial intelligence could exceed the combined intelligence of humanity within the next five years, according to U.S. entrepreneur Elon Musk. He shared the forecast in an interview with The Economist, outlining his expectations for the future of AI.
Musk said that within roughly five years there may be virtually no task that AI cannot perform better than humans, with the possible exception of simply being human. He added that, provided the world avoids a third world war or a global thermonuclear conflict, continued advances in AI could usher in an "era of extraordinary prosperity."
At the same time, Musk said he considers it unlikely that humanity will retain full control over artificial intelligence over the next decade. He noted that the risks associated with AI and so-called "killer robots" are not zero.
Musk also argued that there is no realistic way to halt the rapid development of artificial intelligence and robotics. Despite the potential risks, he said he believes the most likely long-term outcome is a significant increase in global prosperity.
