Fatality Rate Tops 34% as Ebola Death Toll Rises in DR Congo

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to spread rapidly. The number of laboratory-confirmed deaths has reached 600, bringing the case fatality rate to 34.1%.
The total number of confirmed infections has risen to 1,759, with 51 new cases recorded in a single day. A total of 750 patients are currently under observation in hospitals and medical isolation facilities.
The current outbreak was detected in eastern DR Congo in May 2026 and has also affected Uganda. The situation remains serious amid the continued spread of the infection and reports of suspected cases in new areas.
National and international health authorities continue epidemiological surveillance and measures aimed at containing the spread of the virus.
