On December 16, a videoconference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was held to review the results of efforts to reduce poverty through banking services in neighborhoods and to outline plans for 2025.

The President criticized some officials for treating the issue as a temporary matter. Due to sluggishness and irresponsibility, 297 leaders in the economic sector were dismissed, and modern-thinking young specialists were appointed in their place.

“If a leader does not go to neighborhoods to solve the problems of the population and entrepreneurs, they are not doing their job. At a time when global economic and political conditions are becoming more strained, we must promptly find solutions to these issues,” said the Head of State.

During the meeting, achievements within the framework of the Family Entrepreneurship Program were noted. Over the past six years, 750,000 people have launched businesses and earned income, while 58,000 new enterprises have been established. Banks must now support these successful entrepreneurs in advancing to small and medium-sized businesses. For this purpose, it is planned to allocate 300 billion UZS in loans through the “Small Business Support” program, which is expected to create employment for 1.5 million people.

The issue of 3,000 inactive properties on the banks' balance sheets was also discussed. It was highlighted that by putting these properties on the market or turning them into profitable businesses, there is potential to create 150,000 jobs.

Additionally, a proposal was made to expand four pilot experiences in neighborhoods and launch the activities of neighborhood bankers in cooperation with banks and local governors. Neighborhood bankers will study the business opportunities of the population and help implement projects.

The President emphasized the need to strengthen discipline and personal responsibility in the financial and banking system against the backdrop of global economic challenges. Reports from leaders were heard, and the successful experiences of entrepreneurs were studied during the meeting.
