A pivotal move in developing the resource base is the contract signed with the Chinese firm CNPC XIBU Drilling Engineering. Between 2026 and 2028, the partners will drill 30 exploration wells in the Ustyurt region at extreme depths ranging from 5,500 to 6,000 meters. The project aims to reach hard-to-access hydrocarbon reserves in strata characterized by abnormally high pressure and temperature. Leveraging Chinese technological expertise will allow Uzbekistan to implement innovative drilling methods previously unused in the domestic industry.

Concurrently, Uzbekistan is broadening its energy dialogue with Dushanbe. During a meeting between Uzbekneftegaz leadership and a Tajik delegation—including the head of the State Material Reserves Agency and the Ambassador of Tajikistan—the supply of Uzbek oil and gas products was discussed. The Tajik side expressed high interest in purchasing products from the holding's major industrial enterprises. Both parties confirmed that all interactions will be based strictly on market principles, reinforcing the strategic nature of the relationship between the two nations.
