Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians Addresses Prevention of Violence Against Women

The 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union included its sixth session, focused on strengthening the professional knowledge and skills of young parliamentarians. A key topic of the WYDE training was the prevention and elimination of violence against women.
Participants exchanged experience and discussed ways to strengthen the involvement of young parliamentarians in parliamentary work. Particular attention was given to developing effective policies and improving legislative mechanisms aimed at preventing violence against women.
During the WYDE training, participants examined measures to prevent and eliminate violence against women, as well as ways to strengthen the role of parliaments and cooperation among relevant stakeholders. The discussion focused on sharing experience and approaches that could contribute to more effective work in this area.
In parallel, the free conference format featured working groups based on initiatives put forward by representatives of different parliaments. Young parliamentarians whose topics were selected for discussion served as session moderators and led the work of the respective groups.
The open dialogue platform gave young parliamentarians an opportunity to present the experience of their countries and parliaments, discuss current issues, put forward new ideas and initiatives, and work together on possible solutions.
Following the discussions, participants’ proposals and views were highlighted as an important contribution to the development of international inter-parliamentary cooperation. Particular importance was attached to strengthening the role of young parliamentarians in decision-making processes and increasing efforts to advance gender equality and protect women from violence.
The sessions combined professional exchange, open dialogue and work on initiatives proposed by young parliamentarians themselves. This format allowed participants not only to discuss existing approaches but also to develop proposals within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
