IOC Temporarily Reinstates the Russian Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has temporarily reinstated the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and recommended that international sports federations review the restrictions currently imposed on Russian athletes.

According to the IOC, the decision followed an assessment conducted by its Legal Commission. The committee said the ROC had removed regional sports organizations operating in Ukrainian territories under Russian control from its membership and had assured the IOC that it would not conduct activities in those territories.
At the same time, the IOC stressed that it does not plan to hold its events in Russia or invite Russian officials to competitions organized under its auspices.
The committee stated that Russian athletes may return to international competitions provided they comply with anti-doping requirements. A final decision on the use of Russia's national flag, colors and anthem at future Olympic Games has not yet been made.
The move could improve Russian athletes' prospects of competing at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. However, several international sports federations have already indicated that they will make their own decisions regarding the participation of Russian athletes.
