iPhone 17 Pro Max Will Be Thicker Due to a Larger Battery
Technology
According to renowned Chinese insider Ice Universe, Apple plans to compare the thickness of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with the current iPhone 16 Pro Max. The insider suggests that the increase in thickness is likely due to the installation of a higher-capacity battery. This was reported by MacRumors.
According to Ice Universe, the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max will increase to 8.725 mm, compared to 8.25 mm for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The difference in thickness will be 0.475 mm. The insider is confident that this size increase directly indicates Apple’s intention to install a larger battery. It is reported that the rest of the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s body dimensions, including the frame, will remain the same as the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
So far, there have been no rumors online about an increase in battery life or a change in the battery size of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Therefore, if the Ice Universe information is confirmed, it will mark a new and unexpected shift in Apple’s flagship lineup development.
In addition to the thickness details, previous rumors suggested that iPhone 17 Pro models would feature a larger rectangular camera module with rounded corners while Apple would retain the triangular arrangement of the primary lenses.
There are also reports that the premium iPhone 17 Pro models will return to aluminum frames instead of the titanium ones used in the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro. According to leaks, the devices' rear panels will adopt a new design combining aluminum and glass.
Additionally, Ice Universe noted that the dimensions of the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be identical to the all-new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, except for the thickness.
