Kazakhstan and China Sign 10 Agreements at Investment Forum

Kazakhstan and China have signed 10 agreements on investment and infrastructure projects. The documents were exchanged during the Kazakhstan-China Investment Forum, where President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined key areas for further economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan-China trade turnover approached $50 billion last year. Chinese investment in Kazakhstan’s economy has exceeded $29 billion, while the portfolio of major joint projects includes 260 initiatives worth more than $62 billion.
The agreements cover several sectors. They provide for the construction of facilities producing aluminum and chemical products, including urea, as well as projects in the energy sector.
Renewable energy is another area covered by the agreements. The documents envisage the development of wind power projects with a combined capacity of 450 MW. They also include plans to establish an automotive complex and a specialized investment fund, along with other projects.
Speaking at the forum, Tokayev said cooperation between Kazakhstan and China is expanding beyond individual investment projects. He identified industry, transport and logistics, critical minerals, digitalization and agriculture among the areas with further potential for cooperation.
Kazakhstan and China are also working to further increase bilateral trade. According to figures cited by Tokayev, the two countries aim to raise trade turnover to $100 billion.
