Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to install 10 automated water monitoring stations along the Syr Darya River to improve water management and ensure fair distribution between the countries. This initiative will contribute to the efficient regulation of water resources in the region.

During a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamrayev and Kazakhstan’s Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, both parties discussed the installation of modern water accounting systems at 10 key points along the Syr Darya. These systems will provide accurate tracking of water flow, aiding in better resource management. The ministers also discussed the digitalization of water management processes.

In addition, both sides addressed the operation of the Naryn-Syr Darya reservoir cascade for the upcoming irrigation season. A joint forecast for water distribution and reservoir operations is expected to be finalized soon.
