Kazakhstan Strengthens Economic Dialogue with Southeast Asia

Kazakhstan is expanding its economic engagement with Southeast Asia by prioritizing trade, investment, tourism, and digital cooperation. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's meetings with the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia highlighted the shared commitment to deepening long-term bilateral partnerships.
On the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, President Tokayev held talks with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The discussions focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation, increasing bilateral commerce, promoting tourism, and identifying new areas for collaboration.
During his meeting with the Thai prime minister, Tokayev described Bangkok as one of Kazakhstan's key partners in Southeast Asia. Bilateral trade increased by 76% during the first four months of 2026, exceeding $110 million. He emphasized that exports of Kazakh agricultural products could significantly boost trade volumes further. Tourism was also a major topic, with more than 150,000 Kazakh citizens visiting Thailand in 2025.
Talks with Cambodia centered on cooperation in agriculture, textiles, construction, food production, transport, logistics, and tourism. Kazakhstan confirmed its readiness to increase exports of grain, fertilizers, and other agricultural products to the Cambodian market.
Digital transformation was another key area of discussion. Kazakhstan offered to share its experience in developing e-government services and modern digital public administration. The leaders also exchanged views on cooperation within international organizations and initiatives aimed at strengthening regional partnership.
