A. Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, outlined ongoing reforms, the development of tourism infrastructure and efforts to diversify tourism services. The region is developing gastronomic, ecological, sports, ethnic and wellness tourism.

Particular attention is being paid to transport connectivity. Work is underway to launch the Jaloliddin Manguberdi high-speed train and to develop a public-private partnership with South Korea’s Incheon International Airport Corporation for the management of Urgench International Airport. Business tourism is also being developed under the MICE Khiva brand.

Investors were presented with projects including the Qalajik tourism cluster, an eco-tourism zone and boat park along the Amu Darya, the Sulayman-Kala ethnic tourism complex and a tourism zone along the Shavat Canal.

The authorities also discussed the development of new accommodation facilities. The number of star-rated hotels is planned to double through government subsidies, while their occupancy rate is targeted at 80%. Large tourism clusters covering a broad range of services are also planned.
