Mexico has been hit by widespread unrest following reports that security forces killed the leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), known as El Mencho.
The epicenter of the violence is the state of Jalisco, though disturbances have spread to other regions. Cartel members have set vehicles on fire, blocked highways and erected barricades in apparent retaliation.
Authorities have increased the presence of the army and federal police, urging residents to remain cautious as tensions remain high.
