Milei Calls on Britain to Return the Falkland Islands to Argentina

Argentine President Javier Milei has again said Buenos Aires considers the Falkland Islands Argentine territory and hopes to recover them through diplomatic means. His remarks come amid the long-running dispute with the United Kingdom over sovereignty of the archipelago.
“The United Kingdom has major problems. Today there are already demands for the separation of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. So perhaps at some point Britain — God willing, it will come to its senses — will return to us the islands that belong to us,” Milei said.
Argentina calls the islands the Malvinas and continues to pursue its claim through diplomatic channels. The United Kingdom maintains control of the archipelago and says the islanders’ right to self-determination is paramount.
In September, Milei’s government also introduced a bill seeking tougher sanctions against companies conducting activities around the islands without authorization from Argentine authorities.
