Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and congratulated him on the successful conduct of the country’s first elections to the unicameral Kurultai. The two leaders also reviewed key areas for further development of Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan relations.
Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the new Kurultai would play an important role in advancing Kazakhstan’s ongoing reforms, provide effective legislative support for large-scale transformations and give additional momentum to the country’s sustainable development.
Tokayev, in turn, briefed his Uzbek counterpart on the domestic political reforms underway in Kazakhstan. He described the Kurultai as an important component of the continuing political reforms aimed at building a modern and just Kazakhstan.
Economic cooperation was a key focus of the conversation. The two sides agreed to continue efforts to expand bilateral trade, strengthen industrial cooperation and implement joint investment projects.
Transport and logistics were also identified as priority areas, alongside efforts to intensify contacts between the business communities and regions of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The presidents discussed creating new opportunities for closer business cooperation and advancing joint initiatives.
Tokayev thanked Mirziyoyev for Uzbekistan’s support and for sending an observer mission to participate in monitoring the elections, including through international organisations.
The two presidents also exchanged views on current regional and international issues.
