NASA Space Apps Challenge in Tashkent Marks Its Fifth Anniversary

The NASA International Space Apps Challenge will return to Tashkent in 2026, marking the fifth time the Uzbek capital has hosted the global hackathon. The event is scheduled for November 14–15 and is open to participants regardless of age, professional background or level of experience.
NASA Space Apps Challenge is the world’s largest annual global hackathon, bringing participants together to tackle real-world challenges in science and space exploration using open data provided by NASA and its partners. In 2026, the event will take place across more than 450 in-person and virtual Local Events worldwide.
Participants can combine skills in programming, engineering, design, data analysis, scientific research and other fields. Challenges are developed by NASA subject-matter experts and cover areas including astrophysics, space exploration, software development, agriculture and data applications.
The 2026 edition will draw on open data from NASA and 17 Space Agency Partners, including the European Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Canadian Space Agency and the Turkish Space Agency.
Following the hackathon, submitted projects are evaluated by experts, with 10 Global Winners selected across different award categories. In 2025, more than 114,000 participants registered for Space Apps across 551 Local Events worldwide.
