In an interview with CNN, the Israeli prime minister said he had personally urged US President Donald Trump to abandon plans to supply Ankara with advanced combat aircraft. Netanyahu argued that granting Türkiye such military capabilities could increase tensions in the region.

He also said the sale of F-35 fighter jets would not make Türkiye a more friendly state towards the United States.

Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance said the Pentagon was examining possible ways to sell F-35 aircraft to Ankara despite Türkiye's possession of Russian S-400 air defence systems.

Foreign media have also reported that Ankara could consider selling its S-400 systems to South Korea in an effort to remove one of the main obstacles to its potential return to the F-35 programme.
