Pashinyan Thanks Aliyev for His Contribution to Peace in the South Caucasus

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his contribution to the peace process. He made the remarks on September 18 in Wiesbaden, where he received the Hessian Peace Prize for his efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus.
“I would also like to express my appreciation to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who equally deserves this prize,” Pashinyan said.
He said peace was established between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8, 2025, following the Washington Peace Summit and a joint declaration adopted by Pashinyan and Aliyev in the presence of US President Donald Trump. According to the Armenian prime minister, the initialling of the peace and interstate relations agreement marked a historic turning point in relations between the two countries.
Pashinyan also thanked the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan, saying they had “embraced and supported peace”, recognizing that while the past cannot be changed, the present and future can be shaped.
The prime minister also highlighted the TRIPP project, aimed at unblocking regional transport links. He said it envisages restoring a railway in Armenia, as well as building roads, pipelines and power transmission lines.
At the same time, Pashinyan stressed that the peace was not yet perfect and that humanitarian issues remained, including missing persons, detainees and demining. He expressed hope that these issues would be resolved through further efforts by both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
