"Police Mistake": Durov on a scandalous arrest in Paris
Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov has described his arrest in France as a “police mistake.” He shared his statement on his Telegram channel.

According to Durov, until August 2024 French authorities failed to follow proper legal procedures and mishandled their requests to Telegram. “Ironically, I was arrested because of the French police’s own mistake,” he noted.

He stressed that even after a year, the investigation has failed to establish any guilt on his or Telegram’s part. “Our moderation practices comply with industry standards, and Telegram has always responded to all legally binding requests from France,” Durov said.

The entrepreneur argued that the only result of his detention was “damage to France’s reputation as a free country.” He added that he is still required to return to France every 14 days, while the date of his appeal hearing has yet to be set.

Durov was originally detained on August 24, 2024, at Le Bourget Airport on charges of involvement in administering a platform used for illegal transactions as part of a criminal group.
