The FAO head is visiting the country to participate in the international conference dedicated to World Cotton Day and the Second Forum on the Development of Agrarian and Food Systems in Landlocked Developing Countries.

Discussions focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and this prominent UN specialized agency regarding food security and agricultural development.

Satisfaction was expressed regarding the results of practical cooperation achieved in recent years. A new five-year partnership program was adopted, and 27 joint projects are currently in an active implementation phase.

Uzbekistan has been elected to the FAO Council for the 2028–2029 term for the first time. Tomorrow, an Agro-Innovation Hub for landlocked countries will be launched in Tashkent.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the effective implementation of the new cooperation program and the development of a promising package of joint projects—particularly in areas such as digitalization and the integration of artificial intelligence into the agricultural sector, attracting climate finance, exchanging expertise, and training specialists.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Qu Dongyu presented the Head of State with the FAO’s highest honor—the "Agricola" medal—in special recognition of the President of Uzbekistan’s initiatives and achievements in ensuring food security and developing the agricultural and water management sectors. The "Agricola" Medal, established by the UN FAO in 1977, is awarded to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated commitment and taken practical action toward achieving universal goals such as the eradication of hunger and the assurance of food security.
