The initiative was discussed at a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on September 11. About 75,000 students are currently studying in Tashkent&rsquo;s Almazar district. Around 17,500 young people live in 41 student dormitories serving seven universities. A dedicated directorate will be established to coordinate student education and accommodation, employment, social support, cultural activities and safety. Its responsibilities will also include improving the areas around dormitories, developing green zones and book caf&eacute;s, and organising cultural events. A Situation Center based on digital technologies is already operating at Yoshlik Student Town. It provides real-time monitoring of the social situation, student attendance and the prevention of offenses. The center covers all 41 dormitories in the student town and is integrated with 17 information systems, enabling data to be analysed through a single digital platform. Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kongratbay Sharipov said a new model for managing the student town had been presented to the President. &ldquo;Currently, services and management are organised differently at each university, which leads to unnecessary labour and expenses. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a unified directorate here and introduce a &lsquo;smart&rsquo; management system based on the experience of foreign, including European, universities,&rdquo; the minister said. One of the main objectives of the new system is to prevent offenses among young people. According to Sharipov, &ldquo;smart&rdquo; cameras and a system for monitoring violations across the student town will be introduced as part of these efforts. The unified platform is also expected to bring together data on crime, class attendance, problems with contract payments, employment and student engagement. The President approved the project and instructed officials to extend the experience to other student dormitories across the country.
