Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan hold talks on deepening allied relations

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon continued negotiations in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations of the two countries. This was reported by the press service of the head of Uzbekistan.

It was noted that there is a huge untapped potential and great opportunities for further development of full-scale co-operation.

"In order to realise the historic Treaty on Allied Relations being signed today, it is necessary to increase the effectiveness of contacts at all levels - parliaments, governments, foreign policy agencies, ministries and regions," the head of Uzbekistan said.

The importance of developing cross-border trade mechanisms and trade infrastructure to bring the volume of trade turnover up to 2 billion dollars was stressed.

Issues of continuing constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue on water use were discussed.

Cooperation in the field of transport and transit traffic has been identified as a strategic direction. The Presidents advocated the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in this area and the creation of favourable conditions for the development of air and rail transport and the increase in the volume of transit freight traffic.

The sides agreed to more actively support cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

The importance of close contacts in countering modern challenges and threats and promoting socio-economic projects in Afghanistan was noted.

The readiness to continue mutual support within the framework of regional and international structures was emphasised.

In the course of the meeting, reports of deputy prime ministers, ministers of transport, energy and agriculture on the agenda were heard.

Following the talks, the heads of state instructed to prepare a joint road map and establish mechanisms for the effective implementation of the agreements reached.
