Putin and Modi Hold Talks on the Sidelines of BRICS Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in India for a three-day working visit. From September 11 to 13, he will attend the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi and hold a number of international meetings.
On the sidelines of the summit, Putin met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The talks took place at the Bharat Mandapam congress and exhibition center in New Delhi.
The two leaders last met less than two weeks ago, on August 31, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek. The Kremlin has previously highlighted the trusting relationship between Putin and Modi. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the leaders prefer to communicate in an informal setting and “openly exchange views on current issues.”
Putin arrived in India on Friday to participate in the BRICS summit. A number of international meetings are also scheduled during the visit.
Russia and India have previously described their relations as a special and privileged strategic partnership. Moscow and New Delhi also cooperate through BRICS and other multilateral formats.
