Putin and Mohammed bin Salman Called for an End to Hostilities in Yemen

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation as well as the situation in the Middle East, particularly developments in the Gulf region.
Putin congratulated the Saudi Crown Prince on the upcoming national holiday marking the proclamation of Saudi Arabia. He noted that 100 years ago the Soviet Union became the first foreign state to recognize the Saudi Kingdom.
The two leaders expressed mutual satisfaction with the level of cooperation achieved between Russia and Saudi Arabia in the political, trade and economic, and humanitarian spheres.
The conversation included a detailed exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East. The sides stressed that political and diplomatic efforts remain essential to normalize the crisis while taking into account the interests of all parties.
They also discussed the deteriorating military and political situation in Yemen. Putin and Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed the need for an early cessation of hostilities and for conditions to be created for a constructive intra-Yemeni dialogue under UN auspices.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safe and unhindered passage of vessels through international waterways in the region, including the Bab el-Mandeb and Strait of Hormuz. Maritime security remains an important element of stability in the region.
The two sides agreed to continue contacts at various levels.
