Saida Mirziyoyeva Meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York

Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and focused on key areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations.
The two sides discussed the main areas of cooperation being developed jointly by Uzbekistan and the UN. The talks focused on further engagement within the framework of the organization and support for initiatives of mutual interest.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly is taking place in New York. The General Debate opened on September 22 and will continue through September 28, with a break on September 27. World leaders, heads of government and senior representatives are discussing international issues, ways to strengthen cooperation and responses to global challenges.
Following the meeting, Saida Mirziyoyeva highlighted the role of the UN Secretary-General at a challenging time for the international system and expressed appreciation for his support for Uzbekistan.
“In this difficult time for the international system, I thank Mr. Guterres for such strong global leadership and for supporting our country in all key areas of security,” she said.
The 81st General Assembly session includes a broad programme of high-level events. On September 23, the UN will hold a high-level meeting marking the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development. A high-level plenary meeting on the threats posed by sea-level rise is scheduled for September 24, while a meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response will take place on September 25.
