Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov has called for the C5+1 partnership to take on new strategic substance, with a focus on developing Central Asia as an integrated region. He made the statement at a meeting of Central Asian foreign ministers and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
Saidov said a strong, stable and prosperous Central Asia serves the interests of all countries in the region and their international partners. He welcomed Rubio on his first visit to Uzbekistan and praised US efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership. He also noted President Donald Trump’s attention to Central Asia and the expanding opportunities for cooperation.
According to Saidov, the relationship of trust between the leaders of Uzbekistan and the United States has opened a new chapter in bilateral ties. Uzbekistan is ready to build on existing achievements, ensure continuity in cooperation and turn agreements into practical outcomes. He said Central Asia was becoming a more cohesive region, increasingly able to determine its own future and make a substantial contribution to international affairs.
The minister identified stronger economic ties, investment and advanced technologies, as well as better access to global markets, as key priorities. He proposed developing a strategic partnership on critical minerals covering the entire value chain, from geological exploration and mineral processing to the creation of local industrial clusters. Saidov also highlighted the potential to combine Central Asia’s resources and human capital with US technology, investment and business expertise.
Rubio said the C5+1 format reflected Washington’s interest in closer and peaceful relations with Central Asian countries, as well as its commitment to developing those ties. He described Central Asia as a promising destination for investment and exports and a potential hub for supplying materials vital to the future of countries worldwide.
The US secretary of state identified practical areas for cooperation, including transport infrastructure along the Trans-Caspian trade route, integrated critical-mineral supply chains with higher added value, and training thousands of young specialists to use and support advanced American technologies. These efforts, Rubio said, would create more opportunities to access US and Central Asian markets and strengthen economic cooperation.
