The Welcome & Orientation session took place in Samarkand on 19 October, opening the C5+1 business programme during a visit by a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Representatives of more than 400 companies from the United States, Central Asian countries and Uzbekistan are taking part.
The session was organised with the participation of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade and the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce. Opening the event, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov outlined priorities for investment and technology cooperation and confirmed the ministry’s readiness to support joint initiatives.
The business programme includes more than 100 US companies, around 100 companies from other Central Asian countries and 200 Uzbek enterprises. US Assistant Secretary of Commerce David Vogel delivered welcoming remarks. Executives from Wabtec, Franklin Templeton, Traxys and Aquatech presented prospects for cooperation.
The programme covers six areas: digital technologies; education and healthcare; mineral resources; energy and transport; agriculture and textiles; and finance and investment. Participants are expected to discuss opportunities for cooperation and potential joint projects across these sectors.
Direct B2B and B2G talks are planned as part of the programme, bringing together businesses and, separately, companies and government bodies. The meetings are intended to help participants establish business contacts and discuss practical opportunities for cooperation.
The programme forms part of the C5+1 framework, which brings together the United States and five Central Asian countries. The Samarkand meetings focus on developing business ties and exploring investment and technology initiatives involving regional companies and US businesses.
