Samarkand Prepares for a Space Breakthrough
Samarkand will host the International Astronautical Congress in 2028 — one of the largest global events in the space sector. Uzbekistan secured the right to host the forum following a decision by international experts in October 2025 at a meeting in Sydney.

According to Muhiddin Ibragimov, Deputy Director of the Uzbekcosmos agency, in an interview with O’zbekiston 24, invitations are planned for SpaceX founder Elon Musk and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos. Other prominent figures in the global space industry are also expected to receive official invitations.

More than 10,000 participants are anticipated to attend the congress. Hosting the event is viewed as recognition of Uzbekistan’s achievements in the space sector and its growing international reputation. Large-scale preparations are set to begin within the next two years.

Organizers expect significant economic benefits. A similar event held in Australia generated approximately $27 million for the national economy. In Samarkand, the arrival of thousands of foreign delegates is expected to boost tourism, services, and entrepreneurship.

Industry organizations from the United States, China, India, Russia, and several European countries have already confirmed their readiness to participate.
