Sanginov Launches a Reset of the Oil Sector

Abdugani Sanginov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekneftegaz, has dismissed the heads of five oil depots — Termez, Jizzakh, Marokand, Kuchlik and Turakurgan — citing serious violations committed over the past year.

The decision was made following a meeting on January 8 and marks the beginning of broader reforms within the company. Sanginov emphasized that the primary mission of oil depots is to ensure uninterrupted supply of high-quality petroleum products and that operations must be based on transparency, integrity and personal accountability.

Uzbekneftegaz also appointed Nodir Mukhiddinov as Deputy Chairman for Geology. He brings extensive experience in oil and gas exploration from senior roles in government geological institutions.

As part of the reform package, Neftgaz Engineering LLC was established as a unified customer service responsible for construction, reconstruction, drilling and major well repairs. Previously, these tasks were handled by multiple contractors, often resulting in delays, quality issues and rising costs.

The company noted that a growing number of unfinished projects had negatively affected operations and increased tax burdens. Centralized management is expected to improve oversight, reduce costs and accelerate project completion.

Sanginov took office in December 2025, replacing Bahodir Sidikov, and announced a “first 100 days” reform agenda focused on profitability, debt reduction and digital transformation.
