Official farewell ceremonies have begun in Iran for the former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in late February during a coordinated military operation by the United States and Israel. The body of the spiritual leader was conveyed to the main prayer hall of the Mosalla Mosque in Tehran, marking the starting point of a six-day mourning period. Organizers anticipate that between 15 and 20 million people will participate in the massive processions spanning the religious centers of Tehran, Qom, Najaf, and Mashhad.
Diplomatic delegations from more than 30 nations have already arrived in the Iranian capital to attend the funeral services. Notably, Uzbekistan is represented at the ceremony by an official delegation led by Nuriddin Ismoilov, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. The mourning processions are taking place under stringent security measures and a 40-day period of nationwide public mourning. Following the death of Ali Khamenei, the post of Supreme Leader of Iran was assumed by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, who is now tasked with guiding the nation through a profound regional crisis.
