SOCAR Enters Uzbekistan’s Retail Fuel Market with Plans for a Filling Station Network

Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company SOCAR is entering Uzbekistan’s retail fuel market and plans to invest in building a network of filling stations across the country. The announcement was made by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy and Chairman of SOCAR’s Supervisory Board Mikayil Jabbarov at the 4th Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan Interregional Forum.
Jabbarov noted that SOCAR is already participating as an investor in the development of the prospective Ustyurt field in Uzbekistan in partnership with Uzbekneftegaz and UK-based BP.
“SOCAR will contribute to strengthening the energy security of brotherly Uzbekistan. Today, an official announcement will also be made regarding our entry into Uzbekistan’s retail market, followed by investments in the construction of a network of filling stations,” the minister said.
The planned project will expand SOCAR’s presence in Uzbekistan’s energy sector from upstream resource development to the retail fuel market.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s AzerGold is set to cooperate with Uzbek partners on geological exploration and mining activities. According to Jabbarov, these operations will be carried out across Uzbekistan’s regions.
The announcements were made during the 4th Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan Interregional Forum held in Tashkent on August 22, 2026.
