President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held talks in a restricted format and with members of their official delegations.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of state emphasized that over the past years, Uzbek-Belarusian multifaceted relations have reached a qualitatively new level.
It was emphasized that in preparation for the current visit, meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council, political consultations, meetings of analytical circles, Days of Culture of Uzbekistan, and other events had been successfully held.
The steady growth of mutual trade turnover was noted with satisfaction. Over the past five years, it has almost tripled, reaching almost $1 billion by the end of last year. Since the beginning of this year, its volume has grown by another 30 percent. 360 joint ventures are successfully operating.
The leaders welcomed the Action Plan adopted the previous day, which includes concrete steps to increase trade turnover to $2 billion, as well as new cooperation projects in agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, light industry, furniture, and other industries.
They expressed interest in exchanging experience in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the construction of related infrastructure.
They particularly noted the fruitful results of the third Forum of Regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus held the previous day in Minsk, which resulted in the signing of a substantial portfolio of trade contracts and investment agreements.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued mutual support within international organizations, including the United Nations, the CIS, the SCO, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
The importance of continuing active cultural and humanitarian exchange was emphasized.
The head of state expressed gratitude to Alexander Lukashenko for the initiative to create the Alley of Uzbek-Belarusian Friendship in Minsk.
An agreement was reached to organize joint tourism, medical, and educational forums by the end of this year.
