On August 17, a telephone conversation took place between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, during which international issues, the situation around Ukraine, and the development of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

President Putin informed his Uzbek counterpart about the outcomes of the Russia–U.S. summit held on August 15 in Anchorage. President Mirziyoyev expressed support for the agreements reached and voiced hope for a prompt resolution of the situation around Ukraine.
The two leaders also discussed trade and economic cooperation, stressing the importance of coordinated measures to maintain the positive momentum in bilateral trade and to accelerate the implementation of joint projects. They highlighted the need to continue active contacts and exchanges at all levels.
