“The Moon Is Ours”: Trump Posts Image of the Moon with US Flag
World
US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social account that the Moon belongs to the United States. He accompanied the statement with an image of Earth’s satellite featuring the American flag and the words “The Moon Is Ours.”
The post was part of a larger series in which Trump published more than 30 images. Most of them were generated using artificial intelligence. The series opened with an image of actor Robert De Niro wearing a shirt featuring symbols of support for the president, despite their long-standing disagreements.
The series also included historical fantasies featuring Trump. One image showed George Washington, the first US president, visiting Trump. Another depicted a US Space Force officer wearing a futuristic uniform.
A separate part of the series focused on renaming geographical locations. In one image, Trump crossed out the name Lake Ontario, while another proposed renaming the state of New Mexico “New America.”
The Lake Ontario issue is linked to an order previously signed by Trump. On August 27, the US president signed a document renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America. Ottawa criticized the decision and linked it to escalating trade tensions between the United States and Canada.
Candace Laing, head of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, said US tariffs were undermining North America’s competitiveness. According to her, the measures would raise prices for consumers in the United States and create risks for Canadian businesses.
Earlier, on August 22, the United States raised tariffs on some Canadian goods to 50%. In response, Ottawa announced that it would introduce symmetrical measures against US products starting September 8.
The post about the Moon was therefore one element of Trump’s broader series, which also featured fictional historical scenes, symbolic imagery and proposals to rename geographical locations.
