The President of Uzbekistan Outlined Priorities for the Country’s Upcoming Chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev outlined the priorities for the country’s upcoming chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2027.

In his address, the Head of State thanked his colleagues for their support of the decision and for the opportunity to contribute Uzbekistan’s efforts to the collective work, propose new ideas, and jointly advance areas that are truly important for the Commonwealth nations today.

"We want the focus next year to be on areas that yield clear and tangible results: the economy, new technologies, transport, security, education, science, and human capital development," Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

This approach is reflected in the motto of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship: "The CIS – A Space of Trust and Shared Development."

Work is currently being finalized on the Chairmanship Concept and the Action Plan, which already include over one hundred specific events.

The priorities and mechanisms for practical implementation during Uzbekistan’s chairmanship were presented.

Particular attention will be paid to political dialogue within the Commonwealth.

"Today, as the global situation grows increasingly complex, it is vital to maintain the ability to calmly discuss any issue, listen to one another, and seek solutions that satisfy us all," the Head of State noted.

In the economic sphere, the proposal is to place the primary emphasis on industrial cooperation, given that CIS countries possess significant production capabilities, resources, technologies, and markets. "If we combine our respective potentials, establish joint production facilities, and build resilient supply chains, the results will be far more significant for all participants," the President noted.

In this context, the continued removal of barriers hindering trade between the countries will be of key importance.

A specific focus has been placed on digital technologies and the importance of expanding their use beyond sectors that are already well-developed.

"We must look ahead and work together in areas that will determine the competitiveness of our economies in the coming years. This includes critical minerals, artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced materials, and modern energy technologies. These are the areas where it is crucial not to fall behind, but rather to build our own capabilities and launch joint projects," the leader of Uzbekistan stated.

Transport has been identified as another priority area for the chairmanship. The transformation of Central Asia into a vital transport hub connecting East and West, as well as North and South, was highlighted.

"We need to fully capitalize on these opportunities. To do so, it is essential to simplify transit procedures and establish routes that are convenient, safe, and economically viable," the Head of State emphasized.

Ensuring security and stability will also remain a key area of cooperation during Uzbekistan's chairmanship.

"We will support the work of relevant CIS bodies and our countries' efforts to counter shared threats—specifically terrorism, extremism, and cybercrime. These challenges have long since transcended national borders," the President noted.

Special efforts will be directed toward combating the rise of cybercrime, which directly affects ordinary citizens, businesses, banks, and government systems.

Human ties—which largely determine the resilience of interstate relations—have been highlighted as a top priority. The importance of providing students, young professionals, scientists, researchers, and creative practitioners with greater opportunities to interact, learn from one another, and collaborate was highlighted.

"At the heart of all our work must remain the individual—their dignity, interests, and potential. Only then will the CIS be perceived as a space where one can study, work, launch new projects, find partners, and build a future," Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

In conclusion, a firm commitment was expressed to leverage Uzbekistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth to preserve effective practices while simultaneously injecting fresh momentum into areas requiring new solutions.

The leader of Uzbekistan expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, for the hospitality and the excellent organization of the summit.

Following the summit, a package of agreements and decisions covering priority areas of cooperation within the CIS framework was signed.
