The second phase of the Andijan International Airport reconstruction is proceeding at an accelerated pace

Andijan International Airport is taking on a modern look, and its capabilities are expanding. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the region began with an inspection of the construction and modernization work underway at the facility.
During a visit to the region three years ago, the Head of State issued instructions to modernize the airport. He also personally inspected the progress of the reconstruction during a visit last year.
The airport began operations in 1978 and was granted international status in 2013. The facility covers a total area of 243.4 hectares and employs 100 staff members. Over time, the need arose to bring the airport up to modern standards, enhance passenger comfort, and expand the range of flight destinations.
The total cost of the airfield complex reconstruction project is 1.1 trillion soums. During the first phase, the airport's infrastructure was completely overhauled. The runway was extended to 3.3 kilometers, and a new 60-meter-wide runway meeting Category 4E standards was constructed. Additionally, taxiways and parking aprons capable of accommodating 10 aircraft were built.
Special attention was paid to construction quality and ensuring the facility's long-term durability. A robust cement-concrete pavement, designed for a service life of up to 50 years, was laid on the runway. A high-precision, German-made lighting system was installed, enabling the airport to safely handle aircraft at night and in dense fog; landings are possible even when visibility drops to 300 meters. The airport is now capable of accommodating large wide-body aircraft without restrictions.
The second phase of the reconstruction is currently underway. As part of this initiative, a modern two-story terminal building with a total area of 19,685 square meters is being constructed. While the airport previously handled up to 200 passengers per hour, the new terminal will increase this capacity fivefold. High-speed Wi-Fi and smart services will be implemented throughout the airport.
The airport development concept was presented to the Head of State. The President instructed the relevant officials to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the modern terminal building.
Currently, seven airlines operate regular domestic and international flights through Andijan International Airport. Plans are in place to increase the number of flights from 808 to 2,500 per year and to raise the airport's capacity to 3.5 million passengers annually.
It was noted that these efforts would improve transport accessibility for Andijan residents and visitors to the region, as well as help realize the region's economic and tourism potential. Instructions were issued to develop modern service facilities near the airport and to enhance the quality of services provided.
