Timur Kapadze May Take Charge of Indonesia’s National Team

The Indonesian Football Federation has entered the final stage of selecting a new head coach and is considering Uzbek specialist Timur Kapadze among the top candidates. According to Goal Media, the shortlist also includes two others: former “Persija” coach Thomas Doll from Germany and former Iraq national team manager Jesús Casas.
The need for a new coach arose after Patrick Kluivert left his position by mutual agreement. Despite taking over the team in January, Kluivert failed to deliver the expected results — a recent 0:1 loss to Iraq in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers ended Indonesia’s chances of reaching the tournament.
If appointed, Kapadze would become one of the first Uzbek coaches to lead a national team in Southeast Asia. He was previously mentioned as a candidate for the head coach role of China’s national team. Currently, Kapadze serves as an assistant coach under Fabio Cannavaro in the Uzbekistan national team.
