Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, chief executive of Spanish football club Atlético Madrid. The talks focused on expanding cooperation, developing young players and modernising the country’s football infrastructure. In recognition of his contribution to football development in Kazakhstan, Tokayev awarded Gil Marín the Order of Dostyk, II Class.
Tokayev praised the successful cooperation with the Spanish club and expressed confidence that Gil Marín’s visit would take the partnership to a new level.
The president noted that Kazakhstan is actively investing in modern football infrastructure, training facilities and programmes for young players. At the same time, the country is continuing the privatisation of most of its football clubs.
Developing children’s football was another priority. Kazakhstan is working with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to build more than 100 new football pitches for children across all regions of the country.
During the meeting, Tokayev highlighted the achievements of Spain’s national team and the strength of the Spanish football system. He expressed Kazakhstan’s interest in studying and applying advanced training methods to develop a new generation of talented Kazakhstani players.
Gil Marín thanked the president for his attention to promoting football in Kazakhstan. He also spoke positively about the facilities at the Atlético Madrid academy in the Almaty Region, saying that it could eventually become one of the leading football training complexes.
Cooperation with the Spanish club is intended to strengthen player development and create better opportunities for young athletes to progress professionally. The Order of Dostyk, II Class, recognises Gil Marín’s contribution to the development of football in Kazakhstan.
