Tokayev Discusses New Projects in Kazakhstan with Siemens, Linde and Aurubis

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held meetings with representatives of Siemens AG, Linde GmbH and Aurubis AG during his official visit to Germany. The talks focused on industrial cooperation, digitalisation, energy, metallurgy, petrochemicals and new investment projects.
Siemens AG Vice President for Commercial and Financial Affairs Bernd Ulbricht highlighted the company’s role as an important partner for Kazakhstan. Tokayev noted that Siemens’ expertise in industrial digitalisation, electrification, mobility and smart infrastructure is closely aligned with Kazakhstan’s economic modernisation priorities.
The President outlined measures to digitally transform the real economy and welcomed a joint project by Siemens and Kazakhstan’s Silk Road Electronics to modernise equipment at the Qarmet steel plant. Kazakhstan is interested not only in purchasing advanced technologies but also in developing production, engineering and service capacities.
Siemens is ready to expand cooperation in power-grid modernisation, digitalisation, automation and water supply, as well as participate in developing data-centre infrastructure. The parties also noted significant potential for cooperation with Siemens Healthineers in medical technologies.
Linde GmbH Senior Vice President Oliver Pfann confirmed the company’s readiness to develop new projects in Kazakhstan. Potential investment could reach $500 million. In particular, Linde and Qarmet signed an agreement to build a new air separation unit in Temirtau.
The parties also discussed petrochemical projects, carbon capture and storage technologies, and hydrogen infrastructure. Tokayev invited Linde to participate in prospective projects within the petrochemical and chemical clusters in the Atyrau and Mangystau regions.
During a meeting with Aurubis AG Supervisory Board Chairman Fritz Vahrenholt, the parties discussed joint projects in Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical sector. Kazakhstan aims to move toward deeper metal processing and the production of higher value-added goods.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation between Tau-Ken Samruk and Aurubis in processing copper scrap and technogenic mineral formations in Kazakhstan. The parties considered developing a joint action plan for prospective projects.
